all this talk about digital and analogue authorship in my COMM2202 class is getting to me, it’s really interesting and all but some bits are kinda far out..like, am i worried about the death of an author? yeah, i am, but not THAT worried. i guess deep down im just complacent, that the world will take care of itself and somehow, someway, things will just..work out! hahaa, not very good, but yeah..it’s easier this way. did i just admit that? oh man.
i just finished my online stats test, it was quite good..i must say after a visit to anne the stats tutor, the temporary change of tutor (to this guy, wei) cos the usual tutor is not gonna be around for this week and the next and the lecture i went for this morning, first one that i understood entirely (we did normal distributions and z-values in the poly, i’ve had a confidence boost! im starting to feel it’s NOT THAT BAD! and i can ACTUALLY pass!

i have a goal: learn to drive. i must say that perth is a city where if you dont know how to drive, it’s kinda hard to get around. it’s not that public transport is not good, it’s just that you’ve got to plan your life around transperth. this is not very convenient if you need to be somewhere in a rush or the place you’ve got to be at is not close-by. for example, anne’s place is in willetton. from my place, i need to take the train (victoria street to fremantle) then take the 99 for 45 minutes to get to anne’s. i spend an hour at anne’s. this means i spend (including waiting time) 1.5 - 2 hours getting from A to B for one hour and coming back is the same. this is travelling is a waste of time because i could have been doing something else during that time. suppose i drove, i’d take half an hour max (considering reasonable traffic) to get there. like i went for elsie’s dinner last night: if we didnt pile into anwar (anuar?’s) car, we would have taken about 40 minutes (including waiting time) to get to northbridge. we took ten, in the car. supposing i wanted to get home: i took the train at 9.15pm, safety is an issue. if i wanted to go for neuromonics at winthrop, i take the train (victoria street to freo) and then take 511 to winthrop-total time (including waiting) 1.5 hours, for a 20 minute appointment, coming home is another 1.5 hours. also, all these timetables seem to either get you there 20 minutes early, on the dot or 10 minutes late. obviously, i’d be 20 minutes early. so, for example: if my neurominics is at eleven, i got to leave the house at 9.10am, where’s the sense in that?
all this to say: why am i letting public transport rule my life? sure, under the new WA rules, by the time im done to go back to singapore, i’ll still be on my oz P plate: the point being that i’d have some time where i’d actually be able to drive as a P-plater here, increasing convenience. of course cost will increase as well, but i think it’s not a bad trade-off because driving is one of those things that i’d have for life..

now then, back to my COMM2202 essay.
